Best-selling parody artist to rock Rohnert Park

Rohnert Park’s Sonoma State University will host “Weird Al” Yankovic this August.

Fans of musical acts like Michael Jackson and Devo may be familiar with Yankovic, who has released parody tracks for both of the aforementioned musical acts as well as countless others over the years.

Recently, Yankovic was the subject of a musical biopic, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, starring Daniel Radcliffe. While the movie does hit on some of the broad beats of the artist’s real-life musical career — such as finding breakout success by appearing on the radio show Doctor Demento — most of it is a fictitious parody in and of itself. Yankovic was also the star and brains behind the cult parody film of the 1980s, UHF.

The event also features Puddles Pity Party as part of the lineup, who is an artist that covers a variety of songs in a baritone voice from the music world’s most well-known ballads — such as songs by David Bowie, Billie Eilish, and others — all while dressed as a sad clown and remaining in character.
