Vocal Institute will present a concert of opera scenes

A couple of weeks following a concert of art songs presented early next month, a performance of opera scenes and arias will be presented by The Shasta College Vocal Institute.

This will be the culmination of an intense three-week class that the Institute has been conducting in acting and singing. Students are high school-age to college-age singers who are serious about music and are preparing for advance classes.

The class has brought together some of the Institute’s successful alumni and local aspiring singing talent. One staff member was Sydney Mancasola, who won the Metropolitan Opera’s 2013 auditions. The event will be open to the public.

The evening’s performance will be students singing scenes from ‘Madame Butterfly’ by Puccini, ‘Die Fledermaus’ by Strauss, ‘I Puritani’ by Bellini, and ‘L’Elisir d’Amore’ by Donizetti. Duets and arias from other works will also be on the program.

The evening’s performance will be under the direction of the Director of the Vocal Institute, Robert Waterbury. Programs should be back from the printing company in plenty of time. General admission will be $7 at the door. Senior citizens and students will be able to get tickets for $5.

The performance is scheduled for Thursday night, August 13, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at the Shasta College Theatre, 11555 Old Oregon Trail, Redding.
