Local runners and walkers will be turning out for the annual Airports for Autism coming this weekend.
The event has been organized to raise funds for Rowell Family Empowerment of Northern California while boosting awareness for autism spectrum disorders. Proceeds that go to The Rowell Family Empowerment of Northern California will be used to support the organization’s S.L.A.T.E. program that serves Shasta County children ages three through seventeen who are dealing with social-emotional problems associated with autism spectrum disorders, while also supporting their families.
The 5k will be a run on the concourse and runway of Redding’s Benton Airpark. Registration for the 5k and the two-mile Fun Walk will be $30 each and will include entry fees, race bibs and gray T-Shirts sporting the event’s blue heart and flying white jet graphic design. Team rates will be $25. Children 12 and under are free to join in but need tickets. Although these free tickets come with race bibs, event T-Shirts must be purchased separately. Online registration is advised.
Along with the run and walk, there will be a silent auction and community fair featuring vendors and local resources.
Airports for Autism 2023 will be held April 1st from 8:00 am to noon at Benton Airpark, 2600 Gold Street. The 5k will begin at 8:45 am with the two-mile walk starting at 9:15 am.
