Sunset Through the Trees will be starting at the end of July, and runners here in Redding should be getting ready.
The event is actually a series of eight races, one every Saturday, starting July 30. The races will take place at different locations around town and will consist of different distances ranging from two miles at Redding Park to 5.5mile at Fleet Feet. Entry fees will $3 for most races and these races will begin at 7:00 pm. Only runners in the long distances will qualify for point championships awards. These awards will be given in three age groups – 0 to 39, 40 to 59, and 60 and older.
The first of the basic seven races will be at Lake Redding Park and will consist of a two-mile and a 4.3-mile run. Other races will be at LEMA Ranch (August 13th and September 3rd), Clover Creek (August 6th and 27th), Fleet Feet (August 20th), and again at Redding Park September 10th).
Moonlight Madness, a points championship, is on August 24th and will have an entry fee of $20 with shirts touting the event graphic design and $15 without shirts. Benefits of this race will go to CARE Animal Hospital. The out-and-back course will be run in the moonlight over the Shasta Dam and back. Runners will start at 8:15 pm and end about 8:50 pm in the parking lot at the Shasta Dam Visitor Center.
