Redding ready to roll up for the rodeo

For Redding folks, it is nearly time to don those cowboy boots and dust off the 10-gallon hats for the Redding Rodeo, some parts of which will be shown on TV.

The festivities will kick off with a steak feed, BBQ, and dance, followed by the rodeo itself. It all adds up to a four-day event that will feature three nights of bull riding, barrel racing, and steer wrestling.

As is no doubt being promoted through poster printing, the highlight of the rodeo will be the Champions Challenge on day four, and it will be one of four rodeos featured on the television series Great American Country. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will be hosting this cowboy extravaganza, featuring rodeos’ top livestock and top 10 riders and wrestlers in each division.

Western Heritage Days will feature Mutton Bustin’ for the kids. For the ladies, the rodeo will present its 3rd annual Chicks N Chaps, an annual fundraiser that has proceeds going to breast cancer research. More than 150 participants will vie for Cowgirl for a Day, and there will be both a live and silent auction for Western-themed memorabilia.

The Dance, Steak and BBQ Feed will be May 10, and the rodeo will be held May 14 to 17. Gates open at 5:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now at the Redding Rodeo Association Ticket Office.
