Redding photography and film buffs will likely want to attend the city’s upcoming Sundial Film Festival for what will be the seventh year for the event.
The films shown will all be less than 30 minutes long, can be of any style or genre, and will not have won in the previous years. A trophy and $1,000 will be awarded in the Best of Festival category. Other awards include $500 and medallions for Best Narrative, Best Documentary, Best Animation, and Best Local School Annual Production.
Photography entries will be divided into two categories—novice and advanced. Subjects will be divided into fine arts, action, or still life. Winners and runners-up will have framed prints of their original work made through a printing company, which will be displayed at the festival venue or other designated sites. A trophy and a $500 award will be given to Best of Show, and two $200 awards and festival medallions will be presented as Awards of Merit. The People’s Choice Award winner will receive $100 and a festival medallion.
Winners will be judged by independent juries which have been chosen by festival organizers. The panels will consist of critics, filmmakers, educators, and photographers. Criteria will be based on quality, originality, and creativity.
This festival will be presented by Active 20-30 Club of Redding Foundation on March 14 at the Cascade Theater, 1731 Market Street, Redding.
