Redding hears latest concert installment in series

The North State Symphony will be presenting a third concert of its four-part Masterworks series.

This one will be titled ‘Soloistic Sensations’, with Scott Seaton as the conductor. Two winners, one of the 2018 Young Artists Audition High School Division and the other from the College Division, will be performing concertos.

The evening’s program will begin with Rimsky-Kosakov’s sparkling Capriccio Espagnot, and Verdi’s Overture to Nabucco will be performed next. Guest artist, Eric Whitmer, one of the Young Artist winners, will be playing Concerto for Marimba, Mvts I, II and IV by Rosauro. Chuang Li, the other winner, will be performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in D♭ Major, Op. 110. The other musical delight for the evening will be Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in D minor, Op. 34.

This will be a big night for the guest artists and pictures taken of them can be taken to local Print shops for Copies to be sent to relatives.

The previous concerts were ‘American Made’ with music by Schoenberg, Brahms, Copland and Bernstein and ‘Mozart’s Influence’ with works by Beethoven, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky.

The last performance in the series will be ‘Pathos and Hope’ coming in May. The guest artist will be Yinua Wan and compositions for the evening will be an adagio from Barber, a piano concerto from Grieg, and a Brahms symphony.

The performance will be Sunday, February 24 at Cascade Theatre, 1731 Market St., starting at 2:00 pm.
