Redding gears up for a great Christmas tradition

December is coming up and that means it will soon be time for the Redding Lighted Christmas Parade. Parade organizers urge children to participate, and the event will be held rain or shine.

The Active 20-30 Club of Redding will be hosting once again, this year with the theme ‘Light up the Christmas Spirit’. The parade has marshalled in the Christmas season since 1982 when it was held on Park Marina Drive. Now as then, only Christmas music will be allowed.

As always, every float, marcher, and vehicle must have lights. Only one Santa will be permitted in the parade. He will make an appearance at the front and then again at the end. Trophies will be awarded immediately after the parade at Senor Rosas Restaurant.

The parade route starts at the intersection of California and Tehama Streets, continues south on California Street, and then will turn east on South Street until it turns north onto Pine Street and finally ends at Placer Street. Organizers suggest that everyone should dress appropriately for the weather, and they also ask that drivers do not park their cars behind the barricades or in the Parade Staging Area. Christmas parades always make great subjects for photographers to get good shots for later poster printing.

The parade will step off at 6:00 pm, December 6, in Downtown Redding.
