Redding jazz aficionados are sure to want to save the date for the upcoming Jazz Gitan concert.
The three-piece is described by promoters as playing ‘gypsy jazz’ from the 30s and 40s, including Django Rhinehardt’s gypsy swing style of the 1930s Parisian era. The group also dabbles in other swing and modern gypsy jazz.
Based in Placerville, the trio consists of two members playing acoustic guitar and one on bass. The band performs in venues, festivals, and events both locally and around the region. Lead guitarist/band leader Don Price includes his original music compositions, which are infused with Latin, swing, and blues overtones in the band’s repertoire. This should be high-energy night, as online reviews show a general theme of discussing the fast pace of the music.
The local venue, the Center for the Performing and the Visual Arts, has been combining performing arts and visual arts on stage since 1995. Poets, writers, musician, dancers, and songwriters are welcome to use the facility which champions the concept of freedom of expression. Original jewelry and handcrafts are for sale in the gallery. Exhibitors, especially photographers, may wish to have catalog printing done before the show.
The jazz concert will take place at the Bohemian Art Loft, 3304B Bechelli Lane, Redding on Saturday, July 19 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Admission will be $15.
