Local schools invited to science bowl

Redding high schools and middle schools are invited to attend the Far Nor Cal Regional Science Bowl coming in early March. Students will go head-to-head in a technical and challenging math and science quiz competition.

A total of 28 teams from Butte, Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity Counties will be eligible.

High school teams may enter up to three teams, each of them having four students. Middle school teams may have two teams of four members each. One alternate member per team is optional.

Each round will be eight minutes long, and questions will be in chemistry, physics, biology, Earth science, energy, and math.

Team one registrations have been submitted, and second and third entries can be added later if there is still room.

Department of Energy has created the Science Bowl to encourage students to enter math and science fields. The public is invited to attend in order to watch and support their teams. Admission will be free.

Winning teams travel to Washington, DC on April 27 and have a full slate of sightseeing and educational seminars before they head to Chevy Chase National 4-H Conference Center in Maryland for the National Science Bowl for the two-day challenge.

Students in competitions like this usually take pictures of themselves and their friends at the competition, then head to local Print shops for duplicates for family and friends.

The 2023 Far Nor Cal Regional Science Bowl will take place Saturday, March 4 at Shasta College, 11555 Old Oregon Trail.
