Headwaters Adventure Company and Redding's Enterprise Lions Club are hosting Sundial Splash, a community river float, next weekend.
The family-oriented float will take anyone paddling anything from kayaks, drift boats, and canoes, to surf skis, paddleboats, rafts, and anything else that can be paddled down the Sacramento River. No experience is necessary to take part.
The float will start at Riverfront Park after a sunrise concert featuring Dirty the Queen. The route will be about six miles and will end at the boat ramp at South Bonneyview. Lifejackets will be required. Many may wish to stick around and have lunch at the Reginato River Access.
Floaters that sign up in raft, surf ski, stand-up paddleboard, tandem craft, or kayak categories can participate in a floating contest, and first one in each category to reach the end of the route will receive a prize. There will be a Sundial Splash Festival after the float.
Preregistration will be $20 and can be completed on the event’s website. On the event day, fees will go up to $25. Registration will include souvenir wristbands featuring the event’s Logo Design, free transportation back to Riverfront Park, launching from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, and access to a free river safety clinic.
Proceeds from the event will go to Redding’s MLK Community Center, sponsorships for kids attending Lake McCumber’s Lions Diabetes Camp, and foster care children at Camp Horizons.
The 2022 Sundial Splash will take place from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm next Saturday, June 18.
