Worknet Merced to hold community forums

A Merced, California-area employment agency is holding a series of what it calls Community Engagement Forums this fall, looking to gauge the city's business needs and provide assistance.

The forums each focus on a different program local government provides to help jobseekers and others in need. In addition to publicizing these programs, Worknet hopes to gather ideas about how they could be administered more efficiently and effectively.

The first forum will take place at the Department of Child Support Services and deal with the topic of public benefits employment and training services. Future sessions will include one on English-language users at the Merced County Department of Behavioral Health on October 2, and a meeting on the topic of child support the following day at UC Merced's downtown campus. Worknet hopes that these meetings will allow it to better develop a regional strategy that will best serve local jobseekers and employers alike.

Worknet Merced describes its goals as:

"…to assist the business community to keep pace with new growth, the emerging economy, and their ever-changing needs by creating a better educated and skilled workforce."

In service of this goal, it works with local educational and governmental organizations to help facilitate training. Jobseekers can book sessions to learn about how to find available jobs; how to best format Business Cards, résumés, and Letterheads to get their foot in the door; and how to ace job interviews.

In addition to the community Forms, Worknet will be hosting a fall hiring event next Thursday, September 20.
