UC Merced prepares for students moving in

The University of California Merced is preparing to welcome students to the campus housing this August.

Taking place over several days, the move-in event is a time when social connections can be made. For instance, faculty members, staff workers and fellow students are invited to volunteer for the move in days. Student volunteers who live off campus are also invited.

As UC Merced explained:

“Helping with move in is a great way to meet new people, help your fellow Bobcats, and introduce your club or organization to students.”

Anyone who Signs up to volunteer must undergo an online preparatory course, with an in-person training session happening at the school the day before the move-in week begins.

Each year, UC Merced welcomes over 4,300 students to the campus housing. To assist with this transition, the school recruits 300 move-in volunteers. These volunteers do everything from helping students become oriented to their rooms to being a flagger for traffic and even offloading luggage from cars. In addition, volunteer activity can count toward club service hours, among other benefits. Each volunteer is assigned a specific duty before the move-in days.

University events like this may choose to use Print shops for creating informational sheets for students or volunteers.

The UC Merced move-in days are happening from August 21-24 at the school campus at 5200 N Lake Rd in Merced.
