Portugal comes to Merced region

The Carlos Vieria Foundation will host the San Joaquin Valley Portuguese Festival at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds near Merced and surrounding cities.

The heritage of the Portuguese culture will be celebrated through dance, food, performances and cuisine. A traditional Portuguese Parade will kick off the festivities. Chamarita, Portuguese traditional dance lessons, will be available. Folklore performances will be presented in an authentic setting. Bloodless bullfighting demonstrations are also on the agenda.

A cultural festival of this nature wouldn’t be complete without a wine and cheese tasting opportunity. Other food vendors will be on hand featuring culinary delights as well as crafts and products.

A special feature will be the live performance of Roberto Leal, a renowned celebrity from Portugal.

A Portuguese Beans cooking contest is open to participants. The Portuguese Kids Comedy Show and Eratoxica, a Portuguese rock band, will provide fun and unique entertainment. Carnival rides and games will provide fun for children.

Banner printing by local printing services can create effective visual signage to place strategically throughout a festival. As they typically are hung high, they attract immediate attention and can have the logo and information printed on them representing the event.

The event will take place on April 13 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. For more information, call 209-394-1444 or visit the website.
