Merced to hold plant give and take

The Merced Colony Grange will be organizing a community event in April at St. Patrick's Church.

The Free Plant Give and Take is an activity where gardeners can exchange plants with other people. People may bring extra seeds, plant clippings, bulbs, and full-grown plants to the gathering. The organizers recommend that participants label the items they bring to the swap meet and put their plants in individual containers. They also suggest gardeners include roots in their clippings and avoid bringing too much dirt to the give and take.

The Merced Colony Grange was founded in 1933 as the county's first local Grange. The organization built a hall in town to use for meetings and social events. The group organizes many activities, such as creating holiday wreaths and succulent wreaths. The association even hosts a holiday party in December. Those interested in joining the organization must be recommended by two current members of the Merced Colony Grange.

The Free Plant Give and Take will be held on Saturday, April 9 from noon to 2:00 pm. People can drop off their plants at the event at 8:30 am. The activity is open to everyone, even if they do not bring a plant to share for the program. Gardeners who coordinate events like this may use flyer printing to make ads that attract more participants.
