Merced library to organize fair for local authors

The Merced Main Library will be holding a fair in November to introduce people to authors in their community.

The Local Author Fair is an event where library patrons can meet with published writers and learn about their works. The genres represented during the fair will include non-fiction, teen, and children’s Books. The presenters at the event may also include writers who have been published in magazines, Journals, or newspapers. Attendees have a chance at winning a book from the participating authors as a door prize. The fair will include workshops held by writers and roundtable discussions.

The UC Merced Center for the Humanities will help the Merced Main Library organize the event. The center was formed in 2008 to showcase performances and exhibitions that express human solidarity. Ignacio López-Calvo is the director of the facility, and Christina Lux is the managing director. The center hosts many events, such as Telling Your Research Story Through Comics, Latinx Languages and Identities Beyond Borders, and the Annual Writing for Community Engagement Conference.

The author fair will take place on Saturday, November 5 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. No ticket purchase is necessary to visit the event, and guests do not need to register for the experience. Libraries that plan community activities similar to this may use flyer printing to advertise their fairs to patrons.
