The first Hmong Children's Day was so successful, the people at the Merced Hlub Hmong Center are doing it again in 2020.
The 2nd Annual Hmong Children's Day is a family-friendly, free event that celebrates the Hmong culture with games, activities, music, dance and more.
The Hmong peoples are an ethnic group from southeast Asia, most notable from Laos, Vietnam and southern China, and there is a large Hmong population in Merced. They first arrived in Merced in the 1970s, when many Hmong people fled the Laotian Civil war. In 2010, the Hmong population in Merced was more than 4,700 people, or about 6% of the city's population.
Children's Day is one of two main events in April organized by the Hlub Hmong Center. Hmong New Year's Day celebrations take place on April 18.
Besides games and activities designed to educate young people about Hmong culture, there will be a keynote speaker, Thaaj Yeeb Her, the Hmong principal of Merced's Joe Stefani Elementary School. There will also be vendors selling Hmong art, and artists who will provide face and body painting for the kids.
Community events such as this one can benefit from professional printing services for the likes of Banners, Signs, and Flyers to promote the event.
The 2nd Annual Hmong Children's Day is Saturday, April 4 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Rahilly Park, 3400 S. Parsons Avenue in Merced. Given the current coronavirus situation, checking regularly for updates is recommended.
