Engineer society to hold event at Merced university

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) will host a conference in February at the University of California in Merced.

The 2024 Region 1 SHPEtina Conference is an event that teaches engineers how to take care of their mental health while working in their industry. There will be several workshops for participants to join, such as Solidworks 101: An Introduction to Solidworks, and Fostering Healthy Work-Life Integration. Attendees can listen to presentations about how to embrace failure, and also how overcome imposter syndrome. A networking lunch and career fair will be held at the event.

The Region 1 SHPE is a branch of the organization that encompasses areas such as Northern California, Northern Nevada, and Washington. The group has 29 chapters and over 1,500 members. Ernesto Zurita Ruiz is the regional vice president of the Region 1 SHPE. Those who become members of the organization can access over $300,000 worth of scholarships, receive leadership training, and get discounts on SHPE events. Members can also have their resumes reviewed by the organization.

The event will be on Saturday, February 24 from 7:30am to 5:00pm. There is no cost to attend the mental health conference, though guests should register in advance. People who want to become members of the SHPE can apply online and pay a yearly fee. Societies that host conferences like this may use flyer printing to spread awareness for their events.
