The University of California, Merced will hold an event in September where an accomplished journalist and author will discuss his newest book.

A Conversation with Mark Arax is a program where people can hear excerpts from Arax’s new book, titled The Dreamt Land, while listening to his perspective on conservation. His latest work is about California’s history of agriculture.

Arax graduated from Fresno State and Columbia University and once worked for the Los Angeles Times. He has written several Books in his career, like In My Father’s Name, West of the West, and The King of California.

The program will be facilitated by Ellen Hanak, the current director of the Public Policy Institute of California’s Water Policy Center. She has written several Books and articles about the state’s water policies, such as Managing California’s Water. Hanak attended the University of Maryland and has worked for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. She is also an expert in topics like climate change policy and infrastructure finance.

Arax and Hanak’s conversation will be held on Thursday, September 28 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Those interested in attending the discussion should reserve their seats in advance. There is no cost to register for the presentation. Colleges that host activities such as this may use brochure printing to make event programs for their audience members.
