Since 2007, Steven and Linda Wight have been trying to get their home construction plans approved and it looks like things are finally starting to move their way.

On the first Tuesday of December, the Lafayette City Council voted unanimously to work with city staff and the couple to approve their building project, a 9,638-square-foot house on 13 hillside acres.

The structure, which would have an average height of 28.5 feet and would sit off Monticello Road, has been opposed by neighbors for a variety of reason since its inception. Many of these neighbors had voiced their concerns at public meetings, citing potential problems such as hazards connected with construction, interfering with ridgeline views, and increased traffic.

The house’s building permit was finally put on the council’s consent agenda for this October 27 in the form of a resolution to deny the project. However, in a letter sent by the Wight’s attorney, David Bowie, the validity of the various claims was disputed and the project was pulled from the agenda.

City Council’s tabled the matter for further investigation until its December 2 meeting when, since no opposition was heard from, the decision was made to work toward approval.
