Local musicians who are in bands looking to get that important first gig will get their chance at an upcoming night of youth music in Lafayette.
The event, still scheduled at the time of writing, is free to the public and bands can sign up for free. The event is to raise awareness of teen depression and the various outlets available for local teens who are suffering and do not where to turn. It is hoped this casual, fun forum will be a safe place to discuss an often difficult issue.
The event is hosted by the Lafayette Youth Services Commission. It is working in conjunction with youth commissions in nearby communities - the Moraga Youth Involvement Committee and the Orinda Teen Advisory Council.
Bands looking to play some tunes at the event can register online by visiting the Lafayette website.
The Lafayette Youth Services Commission advises the City of Lafayette on issues pertaining to young people in the community. Besides the band showcase, it organizes movie nights, basketball tournaments and youth dances. The commission meets on the second Monday of every month.
Events such as these can use local printing services to create Brochures that educate the public on health concerns such as depression.
A Brighter Day: Teen Band Showcase takes place Friday, April 17 at 7:30 pm at the Jennifer Russell Building of the Lafayette Community Center, 500 St. Mary's Road.
