An upcoming battle of the bands will not only rock Lafayette, but will use a love of music to help young people in the community better deal with mental health issues.
A Rock Band Showcase invites teens and young adults to enter their bands for a one-night only concert.
The event is put on by a group called A Brighter Day, which uses education and socially interactive events to help young adults and teens deal with issues like stress and depression.
A Brighter Day uses a ‘band showcase’ to unite teens with community resources, bringing them together in a safe space where mutual respect and having fun combines with education and raising awareness.
Local teen bands get to play two to four songs. Local music teachers are the judges. All participants get an award, and the winning band gets extra recognition. The bands are judged on the quality of their music and by how many fans they bring to the event with them.
At the event there will be tables dedicated to raising awareness of mental health resources available for youth. A speaker from the local music community will also speak about the healing power of music and encourage youth to seek help when they feel depressed and alone.
Community organizations often require brochure printing services to create pamphlets to hand out to the public at events such as this one.
A Brighter Day Teenage Band Showcase is scheduled for Friday, October 2 from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm at the Lafayette Community Center, 500 St. Mary’s Rd.
