Noted English comedian coming to Hollywood

An English comedian, television producer, writer, and actor who is familiar to American audiences is coming to Hollywood.

Ricky Gervais is the co-creator of several British sitcoms including “Extras,” “Life’s Too Short,” and “The Office,” in which Gervais played David Brent. The show started as two, six-episode series broadcast on BBC2 in 2001 and went on to become a worldwide sensation. The American version, which Gervais executive produced, ran for nine seasons on NBC and won numerous awards, including five Primetime Emmy Awards.

Gervais originally hoped for a music career, but despite some success, turned to comedy. Between 1998 and 2000, he appeared on Channel 4’s “The 11 O’Clock Show,” where he built a reputation as a social provocateur. In 2000, Channel 4 gave him “Meet Ricky Gervais,” a spoof talk show, but his climb to stardom really started the following year with “The Office.”

Gervais has an amazing list of honors and awards including several Golden Globes, Emmys, BAFTA Awards, British Comedy Awards, and Rose d’Or Awards. In 2003, “The Observer” called Gervais one of British comedy’s 50 funniest performers, and Channel 4 put him at No. 11 on their 2007 list of Greatest Stand-Ups; in 2010, they moved him up to No. 3. That same year, Time magazine placed him on their list of the World’s Most Influential People.

Ricky Gervais will be at the Hollywood Bowl on May 31. When they organize events like this, promoters often use poster printing to advertise them.
