Two outstanding musicians will appear at the Hollywood Bowl to perform a concert setting of a popular musical.
Rachel Zegler and Ben Platt are set to perform a concert version of “The Last Five Years,” a popular musical that is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Zegler and Platt will give the show in Hollywood and again at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The performances will be conducted by Jason Robert Brown, who created the show. The appearances in the United States follow a successful run in March at the London Palladium.
Jason Robert Brown wrote the music, book, and lyrics for “The Last Five Years,” which first opened in 2001 at the Northlight Theatre in Chicago, then transferred to Off-Broadway the following year. Since then, it has been produced numerous times, opening on Broadway in 2025. Brown himself has won the Tony for his work on “The Bridges of Madison County,” and “Parade.”
The story is a two-character play that chronicles the relationship between novelist Jamie Wellerstein and actress Cathy Hiatt. The musical is structured so that Jamie’s story is told chronologically while Cathy’s story starts at the end of their marriage. The two meet only once, as their timelines cross in the middle of the relationship.
