One of the best-known names in popular music is coming to Hollywood.
Paul Simon is bringing his A Quiet Celebration Tour to the Hollywood Bowl, where audiences can expect to hear hits from his years as half of Simon & Garfunkel, as well as his solo work.
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel first met in 1953, when they were in elementary school, and auditioned for Columbia Records in 1964. The label released “Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.,” their debut album, that same year, the first time they were billed as Simon & Garfunkel. Simon wrote five of the 12 songs on the album, which did not do well. But radio listeners repeatedly requested one track, the classic “The Sound of Silence.” In 1970, they released the album “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” which is one of the best-selling albums in music history.
The two parted ways in 1970, and Simon began a highly successful solo career, exploring a variety of musical genres including soul, reggae, and gospel. He has released 15 studio albums including three that won Grammys for Album of the Year: “Still Crazy After All These Years” (1976) and 1988’s “Graceland,” both solo efforts. The third Grammy went to “Bridge Over Trouble Water,” and he has 16 Grammys in total and numerous other awards.
Simon will be at the Hollywood Bowl on June 7. Organizers of shows like this could work with brochure printing to create programs, since audiences enjoy learning about performers and the programs are attractive souvenirs.
