New wave bands come to Hollywood
Two iconic new wave bands on the road and will be making a stop at the Hollywood Bowl.
The B-52s & Devo: Cosmic De-Evolution Tour promises a great evening for fans of these groups. Lene Lovich, a vocalist also associated with the new wave movement, is coming with them.
The B-52s formed in 1976 in Athens, Georgia, with Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, the late Ricky Wilson, and Keith Strickand as the original lineup. Three of the original members, Shneider, Pierson, and Cindy Wilson, are on this tour.
The B-52s have a string of hits to their credit including “Private Idaho,” “Rock Lobster,” and “Love Shack.” They were nominated for the Grammy three times: two times for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group, once in 1990 and again in 1991; and in 1992 for the Best Alternative Music Album, “Good Stuff.”
Devo formed in 1973 in Akron, Ohio, with Mark Motersbaugh, Bob Mothersbaugh, Gerald Casales, Bob Casales, and Alan Myers comprising their iconic lineup. In 1980, their single “Whip It” hit the charts and proved to be their breakthrough.
Lene Lovich is a British-American vocalist who came to attention in 1979 with her single “Lucky Number,” which was a No. 3 hit on the UK Singles Chart.
The show was originally scheduled for October 18, but demand has been so great a performance on October 19 is also scheduled. Organizers of performances like this may decide to use poster printing to advertise them.
