Curtis Waters is not even 25, and yet already he is an established musician.
In 2022, the Nepali-Canadian artist released his music video “STAR KILLER,” which was shot in an abandoned power plant. In the video, Waters, with a KISS-style red star painted over one eye, plays a button-down executive type, his biggest nightmare, who imagines destroying his workplace.
The video, Waters says, is a visual representation of him:
“. . . overcoming a lot of the things that were holding [him] back.”
Waters’s first album, “Pity Party,” was streamed one billion times, and was certified Platinum in Brazil, 2X Platinum in Canada, and Gold in the U.S., where it reached No. 11 in the charts.
He followed this effort with a single “Manic Man,” in which he took a clear and honest look at mental health, insecurity, and identity.
Waters, whose real name is Abhinav Bastakoti, was born in Nepal, and is the first Nepalese native to find major success in music in the West.
He has more than 150 subscribers on YouTube, at least 60K Instagram followers, and TikTok followers numbering nearly 140K. On top of this, he has more than 100 million views on various platforms.
His message of being a young outsider contending with overnight success while battling self-doubt resonates strongly with a lot of his audience.
Curtis Waters will be at the Troubadour on December 9, where organizers can use poster printing to create advertising for upcoming events like this.
