Tesla imports workers to boost production

Tesla Inc. will be relocating production staff and engineers from its factory in Shanghai to one in Fremont, with the goal of increasing production within California.

The staff from China are primarily control engineers. They will be tasked with helping the efforts to increase output from the factory in Fremont, where Model X, 3, Y, and S Teslas are built. According to sources close to the plan, approximately 200 people will be making the trip to California on job postings expected to last for up to three months. The first batch could be dispatched as early as November.

After increasing the production capacity at its Shanghai factory, Tesla was able to deliver 83,135 cars to the Chinese market in September. This was the first upgrade to one of the company’s factories outside of the US. The upgrade process involved making improvements to the on-site machinery and it took about five weeks. Thanks to this upgrade, the factory was able to double its annual production capacity to a million vehicles. The plant in Fremont currently produces 650,000 vehicles a year, all marked with the distinctive Tesla Logo Design.

The increased production has shortened the wait time for a new Model Y in China from four weeks to one week. At one point, it took up to 22 weeks for an order to be completed.
