The Fremont Main Library is celebrating Dia de los Muertos this fall with a screening of the Disney smash hit Coco.
The 2017 Pixar film is about an up-and-coming child musician, Anthony Gonzalez’s Miguel, who must overcome his family’s prohibition on music in order to journey into the Land of the Dead to find who he thinks is his great-great-grandfather and renowned singer, Benjamin Bratt’s Ernesto de la Cruz. Meanwhile, Miguel befriends a trickster in the underworld, Gael Garcia Bernal’s Hector, who helps him on his journey.
Directed by Adrian Molina and Lee Unkrich, Coco is the winner of two Academy Awards, one for Best Animated Feature and another for Best Original Song for “Remember Me.”
During its theatrical run spanning several months at the worldwide box office, Coco became the seventh Pixar movie to profit more than $700 million. At the time of its release, it also became the highest-grossing movie ever in Mexico when it coincided with the Dias de los Muertos holiday of 2017.
There is currently a plan at Disney for creating a Coco 2, set for release in 2029, the company revealed earlier this year.
Dia de los Muertos events like this may choose to use Stationery printers for making paper masks and other crafts.
The Dia de los Muertos Family Movie featuring Coco screens on November 1 at 2 p.m. at the Fremont Main Library at 2400 Stevenson Blvd in Fremont.
