The Ohlone College Fremont Campus is hosting the 12th annual Playwrights Festival at the Smith Center this May.
Presented by the Student Repertory Theatre Company, the festival features miniature plays and musicals that are only 10 minutes each.
The works featured at the festival are often world premieres, some of which go on to be picked up for Off-Broadway productions by established or emerging playwrights.
From comedies to dramas and everything in between, the Playwrights Festival has featured works covering topics ranging from explorations of war to relationships, superheroes, and presidential elections. With a goal of connecting young people to live theater, the playwrights are each given a month to write their plays with student actors in mind.
Tickets range from $12 for students to $14 for general audiences, with $4 parking.
The Smith Center, where the festival is taking place, was established in 1995. It includes a main stage, studio theater, gallery, outdoor amphitheater, and studios for TV, radio, and dance.
Playwrights festivals like this may choose to use brochure printing to create call sheets, scripts, audience programs, and season schedules.
The 12th Annual Ohlone College Playwrights Festival is happening this Thursday and Friday, May 7 to 8 at 7:00 pm at the Gary Soren Smith Center for the Fine and Performing Arts at Ohlone College Fremont Campus at 43600 Mission Blvd in Fremont. The ASL Interpreted Performance will be held on Friday.
