Irvington High School in Fremont, California is scheduled to give several performances of the musical You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown this April. These performances will take place at the school’s theatre, Irvington Conservatory Theatre.
You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown is a 1967 musical. It is based on and features several characters from Charles Schultz’s comic strip Peanuts. According to Charles Gesner, he as well as multiple other members of the cast and crew assembled the script together.
It first began life as an album of songs by Charles Gesner based on Peanuts characters. After encouragement from producer Arthur Whitelaw, Gesner agreed to turn it into a musical.
The story’s plot is a kind of slice of life look at the lives of various child characters. However, the titular character, Charlie Brown, does have a loose character arc. It involves him trying to figure out how to become a good person.
The original New York City production won several awards, including two Drama Desk Awards, an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Theatre World Award. The 1999 Broadway Revival won two Tony Awards for Best Actor and Actress.
The performances will take place on April 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, and 9th at 7:00 pm. An additional performance will occur on Saturday, April 9th, at 2:00 pm.
