San Jose symphony marks new season with European Road Trip

The San Jose Wind Symphony (SJWS) exemplifies a passion for classical music by hosting wind ensembles and orchestrated symphonies at their concert hall. To end 2019 on a high note, it will present a series of highlights dubbed the European Road Trip.

At the McAfee Performing Arts Center, guests can experience a tour around Europe, featuring musical pieces from multiple countries, without having to travel there themselves.

The event begins with French flutist, Isabelle Chapuis, who has agreed to play Bizet’s Carmen Fantasy for the “Vive La France” solo, easing the audience into subsequent works from the likes of Gabriel Faure to Camille Saint-Saens.

Afterwards, the SJWS will direct the audience to its next performance about the English Gardens. This performance compares the personalities of gardeners to the vast number of compositions in English music, as portrayed by authors like Andrew Lloyd Webber and Arthur Sullivan.

Their third concert introduces listeners to symphonies from the Czech Republic, the birthplace of polka dancing. It is here that they will pay tribute to local composers at the Czech Mate concert, starring Jaromir Weinberger, Antonin Dvorak, and David Canfield.

Residents living in Fremont can purchase tickets for this family-oriented seasonal tour, which premiers this Sunday, October 20 and extends into the next year. Musicians could hand out business cards if they want their name to become well-known in urban centers like the Bay Area.
