The Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Fremont is seeking extra hands for its Restoration Work Day event.
Any naturists or others searching for a way to give back to their community are invited to the refuge to help prepare the area for the busy spring season.
The group will concentrate its efforts on planting and improving the grounds for native plants. The work will concentrate on the trails surrounding the Butterfly Gardens, as well as the garden itself.
Local groups interested in providing volunteers, or who would like to spread the word about the effort by flyer printing or contributing in some other way, should call Hope at 408-262-5513. Reservations are required.
The refuge is a 30,000-acre park that includes salt ponds, marshes, and open water. It provides habitat for migratory birds, including endangered species, as well as many other types of wildlife.
Those who reserve a spot should bring a lunch to enjoy in the park after the work is completed. All tools and gloves are provided by the wildlife refuge. Fremont schoolchildren can document the time spent on the project for their required volunteer hours. All ages, genders, and skill levels are welcome.
Restoration Work Day is Saturday, March 10 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Attendees should meet at the Environmental Education Center at 1751 Grand Boulevard in Alviso, and can reserve a space by registering through the Eventbrite website.
