The Glenmoor Tennis Center in Fremont is holding classes for children this spring as part of its Orange Ball Novice Tennis series.
The courses are for children aged between 8 and 12. The tennis clinics feature experienced instructors, who organizers hope will create an atmosphere ripe for learning and fun.
Children will learn the rules of tennis in the clinics, which are designed to be engaging experiences. The approach involves developing one skill at a time in a non-competitive setting. There is a focus on both forehand and backhand strokes, serves, volleys, and all of it building up to being able to play in a match.
By the time the Orange Ball Novice Tennis clinics conclude, the goal is for the children is to be able to play in doubles and singles matches in 60ft court while keeping track of scoring, etiquette, and other staples of the sport. Tennis has a long tradition beginning in Europe over a century ago, and is now one of the most popular sports in the world.
