Residents in Fremont are practicing their polkas and brushing off their Bavarian hats for the 2016 Niles Oktoberfest. The festival includes games, music, dancing, and of course plenty of beer.
The event will be held in the Historic Shinn House, a family home that was donated to the city in the 60s. As such, space is limited and tickets should be purchased in advance.
The house will be set up with a dance floor and a small stage where bands the Newark Sax Quartet and Funkelweizen will play a mix of traditional German songs and more contemporary dance music.
A ticket includes a piece of custom Drinkware and one free glass of either a craft beer or wine. Extra beer or wine will be available for purchase. The fest will also feature some traditional Oktoberfest games like the Stein-Holding Competition and Toss the Sausage, with the chance to win prizes.
Every admission also includes a free entry in a drawing for a special Oktoberfest themed prize. Some of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Fremont Giving Hope program which helps children and seniors in need in the community.
The 2016 Niles Oktoberfest will be held on October 8 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Shinn Historic Park, located at 1251 Peralta Blvd. Admission is $25 per person and should be purchased ahead of time. Anyone interested in more information should visit the website.
