The land in question is part of the 2.5 acres purchased by the city for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge to connect the local BART station to large employers and mixed-use developments. The site is purported to be extremely valuable due to its proximity to cleantech companies such as the Tesla electric vehicle assembly plant.
City leaders support using the space to assist early-stage startups and companies, which would fall in line with the innovative nature of its surroundings, and they believe guiding enterprises up to the point that they are ready to create a Logo Design and order Letterheads is not enough.
Fremont’s Deputy Economic Development Director Christina Briggs conceded that although cleantech companies and large manufacturers have played a significant role in the community’s growth, the city wants to support enterprises at various points in their development. She explained:

Backing up Briggs is University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University entrepreneurship teacher Steve Blank, who has expressed his belief that creating an innovation-friendly environment is just the “visionary betting” that could “dramatically change the trajectory of the city.”
