California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has appointed a new president.
It was recently announced that Thomas A. Parham, Ph.D., has been appointed by the California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees as president of Carson-based CSUDH. Currently, Parham is the vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of California in Irvine (UCI).
Parham grew up in Southern California, and attended UCI, where he studied social ecology and was granted his bachelor's degree. He went on to attend St. Louis's Washington University, where he received a master's degree in counseling psychology. He then received a doctorate in the subject from Southern Illinois University, located in Carbondale, Illinois. He has a license that allows him to work as a psychologist in California.
In addition to his academic credentials, Parham is the author of six Books, and more than 45 book chapters and journal articles, and is the National Association of Black Psychologists' past president. He is a fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association, and past president of the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development.
Peter J. Taylor, the chair of the search committee, said that Parham has been successful in working with a diverse student population, and has shown he is fully committed to making sure students succeed.
Appointments like this are of great importance, so university officials might work with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for students and their families contain the president's biography.
