Carson museum hosts workshop for girls

The International Printing Museum will offer a daylong creative program in Carson this November.

The event will introduce girls ages 10 through 18 to bookmaking, printing and related crafts. The educational workshop will combine historical instruction with hands-on projects led by museum educators and industry specialists.

Participants will rotate through eight activity stations covering several methods used in traditional and contemporary book arts. Activities will include making paper from pulp, experimenting with different binding techniques, producing keepsakes on an antique letterpress and creating marbled paper. Attendees will also have an opportunity to screen-Print a shirt while learning how printing and book production have evolved across cultures and time periods.

The program is designed for registered participants rather than general museum visitors. Parents may enroll individual children, while troop leaders can register multiple members separately using each participant’s identifying and contact information. Attendees should bring a packed lunch for the six-hour program.

Registration costs $55 before fees. Eventbrite adds a $5.54 service charge, bringing the total admission price to $60.54 per participant. Most workshop supplies are covered by the registration fee. For the screen-printing activity, participants may bring a plain, light-colored cotton shirt from home or purchase one from the museum for an additional $10. Refunds are available until 14 days before the event.

Hosts of educational arts programs often use poster printing to promote workshops, schedules and instructional activities.

Book Arts Day for Girls is scheduled for Saturday, November 14 from 9 am to 3 pm at the International Printing Museum, 315 West Torrance Blvd, Carson, California.
