The International Printing Museum will host a practical printing workshop this spring.
The event will center on creating personalized greeting cards while introducing attendees to the mechanical and design principles of classic presswork.
Led by experienced instructors Wendy Emery and Lorna Turner, the program will begin with contextual grounding in early printing methods before moving quickly into guided production. Attendees will assemble layouts using individual wood or metal characters arranged on a galley, learning spacing and alignment through hands-on composition. Designs are then manually inked and transferred to paper using a compact press, allowing participants to experience each stage of the process directly rather than through automation.
Aside from printing, the workshop will cover finishing techniques essential to achieving professional results. Participants will be shown how to properly score and fold cardstock, ensuring clean edges and consistent presentation. By the end of the session, each attendee will have produced a set of 25 finished cards, complete with matching Envelopes, suitable for personal use or gifting. All tools and supplies are included, and no prior background is required.
Museums such as this one often use brochure printing to create informational materials for participants.
Admission is priced at $120, with an additional $9.89 service charge, bringing the total cost to $129.89. Ticket sales close on March 21 and refunds are available up to two weeks before the event.
The workshop will be on Sunday, March 22 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the International Printing Museum, 315 West Torrance Blvd., Carson.
