Carson explores textile printing techniques
The International Printing Museum will host a full-day class introducing participants to the fundamentals of printing on fabric.
The session, led by instructor Glenn Laird, is designed for beginners and individuals interested in understanding traditional textile processes that differ from modern digital methods.
The workshop will provide an overview of essential materials used in fabric printing, including guidance on selecting inks suited for different surfaces and demonstrations of various screens, squeegees, and tools. Attendees will also discover how picture stencils operate and will create their own cut-paper stencil to produce custom designs.
The class includes opportunities to experiment with specialty options such as puff additives, metallic foil applications, and retro-reflective finishes—effects that are unique to screen printing.
Participants will observe a multi-color printing demonstration using carousel equipment, offering insight into how layered designs are produced in professional settings. All necessary supplies, including inks and screens, are included in the registration fee. Attendees are encouraged to bring several cotton garments to use during practice exercises.
Workshop enrollment is intentionally limited to maintain a focused learning environment and allow individualized instruction. Standard admission is priced at $150, with an additional $11.90 fee, for a total of $161.90.
Poster printing remains a common method for advertising arts programming such as this one, helping local audiences discover hands-on learning opportunities such as this one.
The workshop will take place on January 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the International Printing Museum, located at 315 W. Torrance Boulevard in Carson, California.
