What's Happening in Carson, CA…

Inaugural event for foodies in early May

An event is scheduled in Carson that will enable people who love Hawaiian food to enjoy their favorites.

Sandwich Islands Network is behind the effort to have fresh kulolo and poi flown to Los Angeles from Kauai. Sandwich Islands Network has teamed up with Patrick Landeza to establish Poi 2 Da People, in collaboration with Hanalei Taro. If there are enough orders placed for these items, bringing them to Los Angeles will become a regular event. The minimum amount necessary is 100 orders of kulolo of one pound each; and 100 bags of poi, also one pound each.

Poi is a staple of Hawaiian culture and is made by mashing cooked, starchy vegetables to form a type of puree. Kulolo is a Hawaiian dessert that has a consistency similar to fudge and a caramel flavor.

The Hanalei Taro Company is in the Hanalei Valley, and has been operated by the Haraguchi family for five generations. The company has experienced both natural disasters and economic downturns, and bringing its products to the mainland will help support what is a local island business. Flyer printing can be used to announce events like this.

The inaugural Poi 2 Da People event is set for May 8, from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm. This is the time when purchasers will be able to drive through to pick up their orders; the pickup point is 305 West Torrance Boulevard in Carson. Sales end May 7.
