An annual run is coming up in Long Beach, a short distance from Carson, and it is likely to attract runners from throughout the area.
The Rockin' Summer 5k, 10k, 15k and Half Marathon is an informal event that does not use chips for timing the race, but instead is timed by clock. The race is run on an open course, so organizers ask participants to be respectful to cyclists, runners, and pedestrians who will be sharing the beach path with them.
All the distances are out-and-back loop courses and will be clearly marked. The 5K run is a single out-and-back loop; the 10K runners will cover the route twice; and those running the 15K will make three loops. Half-marathon runners will have a slightly different route, covering a 4.36-mile loop three times.
Strollers are allowed on the course; but participants are asked to leave their dogs at home. The half-marathon must be completed in three hours and 15 minutes. Organizers point out that this event is small and informal and is more about personal satisfaction that formal racing. All participants will receive a goodie bag and a finisher’s medal, and more details will be forthcoming as race day gets closer. Banner printing can be used to provide course markers for events like this.
The Rockin’ Summer run is scheduled for July 24 at 7:30 am, with bib pickup starting at 7:00 am. Check-in is at tables near 54th Place and the beach path.
