Earlier in the year, the Carson City Council approved an exclusive contract with Waste Resources (WR), which will now be hauling off residential waste for city residents.
As WR takes over trash collection, it will provide residents with information about which carts to use and other services it provides. The company uses three carts, each with a different colored lid—one for green waste, one for recycling, and one for trash. WR will also have information on the sizes of carts available; valet service; a program for Mailing back sharps; how to dispose of e-waste and bulky items; and senior discounts.
The senior discounts are particularly important, as they have to be applied for soon. In order to qualify, applicants must be 62 years old or older as of July 1, 2018 and have a valid identification. They must be the owner of a single-family residence in Carson, and be able to provide a copy of their current bill for property taxes. Finally, they must live on the property.
There are two dates set aside for seniors to request the discount: June 2 and June 9. They can sign up in person on either of those dates, between 9:00 am and 1 pm at the DoubleTree Hotel; or they can download an application from wasteresources.com/carsonsenior, and mail it.
