The Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) in Tucson is offering all active duty and former and retired members of the service the ability to take a pet home at no charge during the month of November.
The offer applies to dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens as a way to honor them for Veterans Day and to celebrate Thanksgiving.
According to the Chief of Operations for PACC, Kristin Barney, this is a way the shelter can give a gift of unconditional love to veterans. It is also helping with the overcrowding issue that the shelter is now experiencing, so those who adopt can know that they are saving the life of an animal. There are currently 900 pets in the center, but it was designed to hold less than half that number.
Anyone else who wants to adopt a pet during the month will need to pay an adoption fee of $30. The fee is waived for all pets with special needs, as well as those that have been at the shelter for more than two weeks.
Pets who get adopted are either neutered or spayed, have been vaccinated, and come with microchips. They are also afforded one free visit to the veterinarian.
