Tenth season begins for movies in the park

Cox Communications and the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance have brought Movies in the Park back to Tucson, in Reid Park Demeester Performing Arts Pavilion.

The event, which started in 2003 with a projector and a bed sheet, has now become an annual tradition and a favorite in the community. Those who want to watch the movies need to brink a lawn chair, or something comfortable on which they can sit, and a blanket. There will be soda and popcorn, and plenty of vendors on hand selling other kinds of food. Each movie is free and there will also be jumping castles, balloon twisters, live music, and an arts and crafts exhibit from nonprofit companies in the area.

According to Lisa Lovallo, Cox Communications Vice President for Southern Arizona, this is an event that the organization very much enjoys hosting for the summer, as it helps to bring people together and enables the group to thank the community for their support.

Movies in the Park began on Friday, June 6 and will continue on Friday evenings for the next three months. Activities begin at 5:30 pm and the movies are shown at dusk on a 40-foot screen. Often, banner printing is used to generate excitement and advertise such an event so people can make plans well in advance.
