Wheels in motion for bike tour
Now that the summer heat has passed, Scottsdale bikers may want to take a bicycle tour to enjoy the sunrise and the cool morning breeze. Early next month, Lexus will be presenting the 11th annual Tour de Scottsdale, which consists of 70-mile and 30-mile bike tours that circumnavigate the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
Proceeds from the rides will go to the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, a local non-profit organization that promotes and protects the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The DC Ranch Community Council hosts and produces the event each year.
Any type of bicycle will be permitted as long as it is safe to ride in large groups. Regular bikes, hand-bikes, recumbents, and mountain bikes are all welcome. Aero type handlebars will be prohibited, however.
Before the event, riders will receive invitation emails that give them access to a virtual goodie bag. This will include coupons, exclusive offers, and sponsor messages. The event is capped at 2,000 bicyclists so interested riders need to register as soon as they can. The ride should be picturesque for those looking for poster printing opportunities.
Tours are scheduled for Sunday, October 12. The start corrals will be located on Market Street in DC Ranch at the crossroads of Thompson Peak Parkway and Pima Road, Scottsdale. Start time for the 70-mile tour will be 6:30 am, with the shorter one starting 20 minutes later.
