Scottsdale runs to address worthy cause

The Foundation for Blind Children will be holding its 13th annual Stride for Sight 5k and 1-Mile Fun Walk here in Scottsdale in late February.

The 5k run will be timed and will take runners on a scenic local course. It is open to all abilities and ages, and will have a Blindfold Challenge, where teams of two will have one member blindfolded and the other guiding. The 1-Mile Fun Walk will be a family-friendly relaxed stroll with no competitive timing.

Registration for both events is $35 until February 27. A Sleep-in for Sight will be a non-race option with race shirts mailed.

Swag includes finisher medals, royal blue custom T-shirts, awards to the top three female and male finishers in nine age divisions, and a Runner's Brunch of fruit, Gatorade, and granola bars before and after the races. The race will be chip timed and photos will be available on the event's website.

Large events like this often have their event shirts and paper supplies printed with the event logo at nearby Print shops.

Race day will begin at 7:00 am with late registration going up to $40. Wagons, strollers, leashed pets, and wheelchairs will be welcome. The 5k will begin at 8:00 am followed by the 1-Mile at 8:10 am. An award ceremony will begin around 9:00 am.

The 15th Annual Stride for Sight will take place on Saturday, February 28 at the Arizona Boardwalk, East Via de Ventura.
