Venue rocks summer opera performance
For Scottsdale aficionados of classic rock or anyone who enjoys anything Andrew Lloyd Webber, Actors Café is squeezing in one last performance of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ into its already jam-packed 15th season.
A full-scale rock and roll band will present the show in a live-rock opera format. The venue has limited seating, so those who wish to attend are advised to get their tickets early.
Over a span of 40 years, the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber production has grown from an original concept album in 1970, to a Broadway production, and finally to a movie. Some songs in the show will include ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, ‘Hosanna’, and ‘Everything’s Alright’.
Stars in the production come from local bands such as Chelsea Louise from Fairy Bones as Mary Magdaline. The part of Jesus will be sung by Sean Mullaney, a member of cover bands Instant Classics and the Elevens. Judas will be portrayed by Josh Kontak from Whiskey Tango. Some may wish to have banner printing done to support the show. Scottsdale Desert Stages Theater is a non-profit award-winning performing arts venue.
The concert will be part of the Desert Stages Theatre Secret Season and will be held at the Actors Café, 4720 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale on Sunday, August 24, starting at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $20.
