State park offers summer adventures

Lost Dutchman State Park will be offering three adventures during August and September.

Power Hour, taking place on Sundays August 8 and 15 and again on September 12 and 26, will be a ranger presentation on topics of interest along with special guests. Guests are invited to bring snacks, drinks and questions. Attendees are to meet at Palo Verde at 8:00 am.

On August 7 and September 11th starting at 6:30 am, Ranger Jody will take adventurous guests on a Saguaro Saunter through the day-use area of the park. Guests will again meet at Palo Verde.

More adventurous ones can sign up for the Desert Scorpion Hunting event on August 14 starting at 7:30 pm, and September 11 beginning at 7:00 pm. After a ranger’s brief informative talk, Scottsdale attendees will venture out into the desert night searching for scorpions. Guests are advised to bring flashlights, water, and cameras. Guests can bring black lights or buy them for $9. This group will meet at Cholla.

Sunset Moonlit Hikes are scheduled for August 21 beginning at 6:45 pm, and September 19 at 6:30 pm. These will be quarter-mile guided hikes with sunset views of Four Peaks and Goldfield Mountains. This group will meet at Saguaro.

Pictures taken at state parks are often taken to local stationery printers to be turned into letter heads and notecards.

The Lost Dutchman State Park is located at 6109 N. Apache Trail, Apache Junction.
