What's Happening in Scottsdale, AZ…

Scottsdale to get full of hot air

One of Scottsdale’s major events, the Colorado River Crossing Hot Air Balloon Festival, is coming up in just a few days

It will be hosted by Caballeros de Yuma and Chretin’s Restaurant. Launch admission fees will be one or more nonperishable food items donated to the Salvation Army.

The three-day event will take place at multiple locations with a backdrop of the Sonoran Desert and the Colorado River. Colorful balloons from all around the Southwest will be launched early in the morning of the first two days. Amateur and professional photographers will no doubt clamor at the chance to get good photos for later poster printing.

A Barney’s Convenience Stores Desert Balloon Glow will be on the second night, in which a display of fully inflated glowing balloons will be tethered to the baseball field. Five-minute rides that go up 75 feet can be purchased for $15 per person. After dark, a large selection of balloons will inflate to music as they light up the sky.

The first morning’s launch will be Friday, November 21, from 6:00 am to 10:00 am at the Gila Vista Junior High and McGraw Elementary School playground. Festivities on Saturday, November 22 will begin at 6:00 am at West Wetlands Park at 1st Street and 12th Avenue. The Balloon Glow will be Sunday afternoon, November 23, at 4:00 pm at the Desert Sun Baseball Stadium.
